Welcome to my Internship Blog!

Howdy!
My name is Taylor Hansen and I’m the loudest, proudest member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 2014. Welcome to my Horticulture Internship Blog where I will be sharing my journey through planning three corporate events from start to finish.

I am currently working and interning for Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service or TEEX for short. TEEX is a large organization that caters to various communities by providing training for fire and rescue, law enforcement, homeland security and infrastructure and safety. My division is Infrastructure Training and Safety Institute (ITSI). I explain ITSI as providing all the necessary training to keep a city functional. Programs range anywhere from OSHA construction classes to Disaster Management to Utilities and Code Enforcement.

Last year I began working at TEEX as a student worker. I helped planned as many events as they would let me. I assisted in two instructor conferences as well as plan the annual Holiday Safety Luncheon. Each of these events had over 100 participants from across the State and Nation. During the fall of 2013, I was presented with an opportunity to work with the Associate Division Director on the Infrastructure and Safety Summit Program. My role at TEEX-ITSI as an intern is to assist coordinating three Safety Summits. An Infrastructure and Safety Summit is a conference-like event where TEEX classes are offered at a discounted rate all in one location. Normally TEEX classes are offered all over the state at different times during the year.
The first Safety Summit is in McAllen, TX on March 24-28. I will be assisting on finalizing the schedule, developing the catering menu, laying out the venue and classroom locations. To put all the plans into perspective, I will be accompanying our Associate Division Director, Tony Alotto and Marketing Director, Laura Shehan to McAllen to finalize the venue, hotels and catering. Hopefully I will be able to attend the actual Safety Summit if my professors do not mind me missing a few days of class. I am eager to see what my internship has in store for me this semester and through the summer.
